Whittier College Science & Learning Center
KUD’s initial involvement focused on advising the College on development options and a vision to reach their education program and goals. The dialog led to the identification of the new Science and Learning Center project. In March 2014, KUD executed a project management and owner representative agreement with the College for the duration of the SLC and related projects. KUD and our sister company, KCS West, balanced the required project scope with market costs and scheduling constraints to finalize a comprehensive GMP contract for the delivery of the SLC. Under the direction of KUD, KCS West was able to transition into the GMP contract on the basis of their competitive costs.
The Science and Learning Center is a ‘down to the bones’ renovation of the existing Stauffer Science Building. Commissioned in 1967, the building became obsolete. The building will be rebuilt from the frame into a modern configuration to accommodate science education laboratories, classrooms, research labs, offices and support spaces. The new building will comprise 88,530 square feet on five floors.
