California Science Center
Los Angeles, California
The $60 million California Science Center Phase II – World of Ecology, consists of the construction of approximately 170,000 square feet of science museum exhibits, office space, and associated support spaces. The Project is located in Exposition Park, Los Angeles.
In a contract with the State of California Department of General Services, KUD was instrumental in providing the necessary resources to insure that the effort of planning and developing a cutting edge institution such as the Science Center was accomplished efficiently and to the highest standards demanded for public attractions in the highly competitive southern California market.
The Project includes innovative living exhibit habitats as well as more traditional interactive “dry” museum elements. The Project’s exhibits include extensive rockwork (including climbing structures), a flash flood feature, live and artificial plantings, irrigation systems, a heliostat, a wave surge machine and extensive life support systems.
As Program Managers along with Stegeman & Kastner, Inc., KUD was responsible for design review of the construction and exhibit documents prepared for the Project, management and project execution through construction, and systems commissioning. KUD’s extensive experience with aquarium projects and museums was a significant contributing factor to our receiving the award for the Science Center Phase II.
